Moms In Business: Alyssa Avant
This week Moms In A Blog proudly presents our very own Alyssa Avant
What made you decide to be a work at home mom?
Becoming a work at home mom was such a huge step of faith for me. I felt God calling me to do my ministry to girls full time and I knew that would require quitting my job. I also was becoming a mom for the 2nd time and knew that daycare was not an option. Those things combined made me take the leap.
What is the nature of your business?
Well, I actually have more than one business. You could say I have 3. My primary focus is my ministry to teen and tween girls and their moms, Beauty by Design Ministries (https://beautybydesignonline.com). I do this through speaking engagements, themed custom events, and also through writing articles and devotions.
My 2nd business is a ghostwriting service business. A Writer for Hire (https://awriterforhire.com) My third and newest endeaver is a custom blog installs business, Creative Installs for Hire )
What made you decide that particular business?
In the case of the ministry it is my calling. The other two I created to help provide extra income for my family and because I enjoy writing and I hvae fun tinkering with blogs.
What has been your biggest challenge?
My biggest challenge in working from home is getting everything done, housework, work, caring for children.
What has been your biggest success?
My biggest success is simply making this work. I have made an income of some type since last October and I have had steay bookings for my ministry, which was my goal.
What is the best way you promote your business under $10.00? under $50 worth it at any cost?
For under $10 I'd say networking, which is free. Under $50 join Mom Masterminds though that really isn't promoting it. It was an investment in my business that has helped more than anything.
How do you balance work and family?
I try to dedicate certain times to work and other times to family.
To what do you attribute your success as a WAHM?
My determination and dedication. I don't give up, I just keep on keeping on.
What impact has blogging made on your career?
It has helped tremendously in networking and getting to know others. I also feel it has strengthened my writing skills.
Can you recommend any resources for WAHMS who are just starting out, or perhaps trying to make the transition from the workplace?
What can you tell us about your other ventures.?
Besides writing for Moms in a Blog, I also write devotions and a fashion column for A Radical Revolution, https://www.radrevolution.blogspot.com/, a blog for teens created through Proverbs 31 Ministries. I also write for a local Christian publication.
What is one thing you can't do without in your business?
The one thing I cannot do without is my online friends. They are such a support to me because most of them in the same situation I am attempting to work from home with children and they understand my trials.
What's the biggest business killer?
I would say dishonesty with your clients, customers, and potential clients and customers.
