There's a question I've been asked a lot in the last couple weeks and it goes something like this:
Do you feel like having a mentor really helped you?
Quickly followed by one that asks:
Was getting a coach worth the investment?
So let's talk a little bit about why I believe finding a mentor you can trust to guide you is one of the most important things you can do for your business.
Benefits of Hiring a Mentor/Coach
Ideally, you want a mentor that is successful in their own online business and is practicing what they preach.
Do your homework. Ask for recommendations. Follow people to get a sense of who they are, how they teach. Look for proof that they are actually successfully making money doing what they’re teaching.
Don’t choose someone because you think they’ll “get you” and don’t overlook someone because you think they won’t. Sometimes it’s the person you least expect that will make the biggest impact.
Having the right Mentor in your corner will allow you to ask questions and get answers from a successful online business owner that has been where you are now and is headed to the place you want to be.

- A Mentor can help you create a plan so you aren't going around in circles.
- A Mentor can tell you where you're going wrong and help you fix it.
- A Mentor can give you perspective and help you gain confidence.

Who Coaches Me?
I've shared a little bit about my personal mentor/business coach at What's A WAHM to Do? , but I'd like to give you a little insight about my coaching experience.
I had been running the blog here since 2008 but was never really sure what direction I wanted to take. I was doing everything I had been taught to do but nothing seemed to come together. I was getting burned out by the whole thing and I was ready to quit.
By this time, I had been starting and stopping for so long that it was just rote to try one more time but this time, this time I had a little more umph and the help of some good people. I had decided that I had put too much time and money into my site and education to just give it up and turn away so I made the decision to really invest in myself and my business.
Now, in full disclosure, I had some previous teaching/coaching via internships that brought me a whole lot farther than I would've done (Thank you very much, Solo Masterminds). For some reason, this time, Kelly McCausey's coaching program caught my eye and I decided to talk to her to see if we might work well together. After our initial consult, she decided that she would work with me and so it began.
I chose Kelly's Gold Key coaching program which, for me, actually lasted from June 2012 to January 2013 when I finally launched the Moms Making Money Online product that probably could've been debuted months earlier.
